2009 Mar 10 Pros and Cons of Vickers Park Dog Park

On the Agenda for the March 10th Regular Meeting of the Civic Association:

PROS AND CONS OF CONVERTING VICKERS PARK INTO A DOG PARK

Michael Simmons

(no relation to Scott Simmons, mayoral candidate & Capitol Heights neighbor)

is pursuing his Eagle Scout standing and approached us about this endeavor

as his project.  To earn Eagle Scout standing,

his role as Project Manager would include

fundraising, working with the City of Montgomery and CHCA,

seeking donations of materials from local merchants and

organizing other scouts providing the labor.

Michael’s Troup leader would be supervising.

Vickers Park is located on the corner of James Ave & S. Madison Terrace.

WHAT IS A DOG PARK?

It is an off-leash area where dog owners bring their dogs to play.

Modern dog parks usually have separate play spaces for large & small dogs, water sources, benches, & waste disposal.

Signs are also posted regarding Dog Park rules.

DISCUSSIONS WILL INCLUDE:

Who maintains the park?

What happens when the dogs fight?

Will barking be a problem?

Why do we need a dog park?

How is the dog waste to be handled?

Please make efforts to attend…It’s important all neighbors participate in this decision…

SEE YOU THERE!!
