Minutes Regular Meeting August 9, 2005

The Capitol Heights Civic Association held its regular meeting on August 9, 2005, at the Capitol Heights United Methodist Church.  The meeting was called to order at 7:05 p. m. by Bob Knapp, President.

Our Guest Speaker for the evening was Mr. Ken Groves from the Montgomery City Planning Offices.  Mr. Groves discussed Montgomery’s Neighborhood Development Plan and how we can be participants in developing that plan.  Afterwards, he offered an opportunity for the attendees to ask questions.

Bob Knapp took a moment to recognize and appreciate Mrs. Bryant and Mrs. Garrett for taking on the selections of Yard of the Month.  Mr. Bryant was also thanked for taking the pictures of the winning homes.

New members of the association and first time attendees of the association meeting were recognized and welcomed. 

The Treasurer’s report was presented and is attached to these minutes.

The minutes for the July meeting were approved as read.

An announcement was made that we made the ‘short list’ for the grant for funding new trees for the neighborhood.

Lynn Bryant shared a brochure containing photographs of the shed he proposed to be purchased with the BOND’s grant awarded to our association. 

A motion was made for the association to “lead by example” and have the Architectural Review Board review our building installation.  The motion was approved.

Bob Knapp reported that two additional Capitol Heights signs have been ordered.  Members were reminded that plans are to acquire two more signs.  The first two signs will be installed at: 
“    corner of S. Capitol Parkway and Mt. Miegs
“    corner of Upper Wetumpka Road and Vonora Street.  

A request was made from the membership to have a guest speaker to discuss cottage gardening.

Bob Knapp announced Lisa Knapp will serve as Chairman of the Social and Special Events Committee. 

Carol King shared with the group that there is a change being discussed for the city’s Landscaping Ordinance.  Those changes will be discussed at the next City Planning meeting this Thursday at 3:00.

A motion to adjourn was adopted.  The meeting adjourned at 8:32 P.M.
