The Capitol Heights Civic Association held its regular meeting on May 10, 2005, at the Capitol Heights United Methodist Church.
The meeting was called to order by President of the Association, Lynn Bryant.
For purposes of a quorum, an attendance sheet was prepared.
Lynn Bryant reported that the Spring Fling held May 7th and chaired by Lisa Knapp was a great success. Approximately 75 residents attended the festivities. Everyone participating in working for the event was thanked for their efforts.
After a count of ballots, the outcome of the elections for the 2005-2006 year were as follows:
Mike Dapelo, nominated at the previous meeting, was elected as Treasurer.
Cynthia McCollister, nominated at the previous meeting, was elected as Secretary.
D. J. Pollard and Jewel Pitts were nominated for Vice President at the previous meeting. Jewel Pitts was elected as Vice President.
Bob Knapp, nominated at the previous meeting, was elected as President.
Terry Robinson, Jimmy Johnson, Glenn Donald, Paul Rawlinson, Mike Jones, Helen Harris, Rebecca Williams, and Sharon
Stewart were nominated for Members at Large at the previous meeting.
Nominated at this meeting were Lynn Bryant, Cynthia Thornhill, and Carol King.
Terry Robinson, Jimmy Johnson, Paul Rawlinson, Mike Jones, Helen Harris, Lynn Bryant, and Carol King were elected as Members at Large.
Tim Vaught, chairperson for Tree Committee, reported that our group may qualify for some federal funds for tree replacement if we are willing to change our tax status. After some discussion, a motion was made to change the tax status of our association on advice of the Executive Committee. The motion was seconded and accepted by vote of members present. Additionally, Tim Vaught was tasked to determine if our group could qualify for the funds with our current status. Mike Jones was tasked to see if there is a way to qualify through an umbrella organization.
Cynthia McCollister would poll the membership via email for a list of damaged trees in the area. Executive Committee will take on the task of examining available tax status for our association and provide a recommendation at the next meeting.
Lynn Bryant announced the church is holding a rummage sale and Saturday, May 21st from 7:00-10:00 AM. All residents of Capitol Heights are invited to attend the sale.
