Membership Committee:<br />
1. No report this month. Request that members cultivate relationships with neighbors by getting out and talking to each other.<br />
BONDS Items:<br />
1. Will have to give back some of grant money from 2009-2010 due to not completing all proposed projects.<br />
2. Realtor Open House: due to weather none of the invited realtors came, however those who 	showed properties were impressed with idea, packets are reusable for future tour or to give 	out when talk to realtors about the neighborhood<br />
3. Letter to landlords: President  &#038; Treasurer will mail letter by end of August, BONDS money will be used for postage, CH is 52% owner occupied, email will be sent out for ideas to include in the letter<br />
4. Homeowners Seminar: this project will not be done this year all money for this project will be returned, due to change in market homeowners are no longer going to seminars<br />
BONDS Grant 2010-2011:<br />
1. Applied for $4000 from BONDS grant for covered pavilion which will cost approx. $11,000-	results will be released in October, to cover rest of cost will have fundraiser for $1000, and rest 	of money will come from the city, labor will be free from community, the project was projected 	to be completed by June 2011<br />
Suggestion of fundraiser of spaghetti dinner, members asked to think of other ideas for fundraisers<br />
Announcements/Other New Business:<br />
1. CHCA needs new Parks &#038; Green Space chair<br />
2. Member at Large: Seth Rhodenbeck nominated, he was approved for position by vote of membership present at meeting<br />
3. Copy of CH quotes collected for open house passed out during meeting<br />
4. National Night out was a success, members thanked for attending<br />
5. August 19th will be prayer night at 1916 Capital Ave at 7pm, please look for email reminder<br />
6. Possible event with Oak Park and Lee Oaks for fall fling or combination spring fling<br />

<p>June 1, 2010 : 6:00pm-7:10pm</p>
<p>1) Budget Review<br />
a) Surplus of $1927.52 mostly from Christmas tour profits<br />
b) $300 donation to UMC is late this year, will be sent this month<br />
c) no charge for website maintenance this month<br />
d) $276.00 owed to Ala Power due to oversight of not having power boxes disconnected—suggestion that president call Ala Power and request removal or reduction of fee.</p>
<p>2) Increasing Membership<br />
a) bring one person to next meeting<br />
b) send out monthly emails from email list<br />
c) flyer distribution<br />
d) replace street signs (need newer signs)<br />
e) use fall activities as way to increase membership</p>
<p>3) &#8220;Walking &amp; Talking&#8221; activity<br />
a) need to get permission to use name<br />
b) idea is to encourage neighbors to walk and talk with each other, possible have game for neighborhood to play (scavenger hunt, etc)</p>
<p>4) Dog park<br />
a) need to time light at Cap Ave &amp; Madison / California &amp; Madison, if too short can ask city to lengthen light to allow dog walkers to cross safely<br />
b) suggestion to look into green space on Yancey for possible dog park</p>
<p>5) National Night Out Against Crime<br />
a) scheduled for 1st Tuesday in August, 2 speaker are scheduled for block party<br />
b) suggestion of purchasing merchandise for event, suggestion to get notebook from dollar store and put stickers on them for CHCA which can be used to take note while walking in the community</p>
<p>6) BONDS<br />
a) Neighborhood Quilt: President spent ~$30 to have CH logo put on quilt square to be added to BONDS quilt project. anyone who would like to have CH logo printed on fabric can now go to You Name It on Atl Hwy<br />
b) Realtor Open House: must be done by end of July to use grant money allocated for this project, position letter needs to be drafted to be handed out to realtors</p>
<p>7) Lion repairs<br />
a) cost estimated to be around $4000, Councilman Larkin will help with this, suggestion by member that CHCA do fundraiser to help offset cost of repair<br />

a) would like to increase CHCA presence in the throughout the city by being involved in city events—suggestion that CHCA be involved in various races that pass through the neighborhood— members asked to look out for events CHCA can be involved in</p>
<p>12) Suggestion that CHCA ask fireman to speak at future meetings regarding fire safety</p>
<p>13) Armstrong Park<br />
a) would like to revisit plans for beatification of park</p>
<p>14) Welcome Wagon for New Residents<br />
a) need to expand welcome committee to include more than one member of CHCA<br />
b) Cindy Keeping volunteer to welcome new residents, and put together welcome packet to give to them</p>
<p>15) 501C3 status<br />
a) Rich Anderson volunteered to contact attorneys regarding process of becoming 501C3 organization, Cindy M. provided Rich with brochure for local attorney office</p>
<p>16) RSVP &amp; PRIME magazines<br />
a) CH lions were featured in PRIME, would like to see more positive coverage of CH in these magazines</p>

1. Speaker not present</p>
<p>Treasurer report:<br />
1. Total budget including CD and cash box is $7753.16, only $350 from BONDS grant is earmarked for projects</p>
<p>Watch Dog report:<br />
1. 2323 St Charles Ave-bank wants to replace roof, owner wants to return house to single family unit<br />
2. 1617 Madison Ave-steel shed erected in backyard without permit, owner has since made application to ARB which will meet 6/22</p>
<p>Yard of the Month:<br />
1. 1921 Captial Ave &#038; 1095 Lewis Street named yard of month<br />
2. Discussion of possibility of residents starting an informal competition for motivation</p>
<p>Historic Designation Committee:<br />
1. June 8th was deadline for photos and surveys, new deadline needs to be set, Cynthia will send email to establish new deadline, thanks to Cindy Clark for completing her surveys by deadline.<br />
2. Five areas still need to be assigned to volunteer: Madison, McCarter, McKinnley, N Panama, Glendale</p>
<p>Candlelight Tour:<br />
1. URGENT: NEEDS CHAIRPERSON<br />
2. EC will assist chairperson with organizing event, suggestions to ask Brenda Bryant, Debbie Garrison, and DJ Pollard</p>
<p>BONDS Grant:<br />
1. $1500 ($500 for each) for open house for realtors July 15th, co-sponsor 2 homebuyers seminars with mortgage brokers, and letters to landlords of rentals (position statement)</p>
<p>BONDS Grant application for 2010-2011:<br />
1. Application available in June and due in August, wish list of projects given to members and will vote on at July meeting<br />
2. Cindy Keeping suggest not asking for money for capital improvements as this rarely gets funded, Cindy Keeping suggest members consider asking for funding for 501(c)3 designation because opens up more possibilities for funding as non-profit, Rich Anderson agree to 	investigate cost of attorney fees<br />
3. Discussion of possibility of Fall Fling co-sponsored with neighboring communities, can apply 	for BONDS grant as group<br />
4. Discussion of asking for funding for afterschool tutoring supplies or school supplies to give to 	neighborhood children<br />
5. Cynthia McCollister ask that members look at CHCA website for list of BONDS workshops and make a commitment to attend, will bring contracts to next meeting for members to sign agreeing to attend one workshop, workshop attendance is required to get BONDS money<br />
6. BONDS mailing list-members asked to give email information to be included on mailing list</p>
<p>Announcements:<br />
1. Membership committee needs new chairperson<br />
2. Current pastor of UMC is leaving new pastor (Jackie Slaughter) to arrive July 1st<br />
3. National Night Out will be in August, potentially having 2 speakers from police dept. would like to see 100 people, so please get the word out<br />
4. June 17th is prayer night for the neighborhood at 1916 Capital Ave<br />
5. June is District 3 clean-up month, visit city website for dates and locations for pick-up of trash</p>
<p>Plans for CHCA for 2010-2011:<br />
1. Call for suggestions for guest speakers at meetings:  Police/Fire Dept, landscaping/gardening, Tracy Larkin, Historic Commission / ARB, housing codes<br />
2. Addressing the empty building in mall on Federal &#038; Madison, owned by Kaiser Reality, suggestion to ask them to bring Starbucks in that building<br />
3. Suggestion that CHCA can look into having Walmart neighborhood market put in location of old Winn Dixie building</p>

<p style="text-align: center;">Attend a rain barrel workshop to learn more about water conservation, protecting our Alabama Rivers and the construction of a rain barrel for home use. You&#8217;ll go home with a greater appreciation of Alabama&#8217;s natural resources and a 55-gallon rain barrel for your home use.</p>

We&#8217;ll introduce various forms of rain water harvesting and talk about why rain barrels can be an extremely valuable part of an integrated approach to rain water harvesting.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;">We&#8217;ll show you how to build a simple, inexpensive and easy to maintain rain barrel.. Then you&#8217;ll be able to build your very own rain barrel,<br />
with the tools and materials provided. There will be several trainers there to help folks that are unfamiliar with using power tools.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;">Be prepared to get a little dirty and have a lot of fun. And don&#8217;t forget that a 55 gal plastic barrel may not fit in your trunk.</p>
