Our constitution names the officers of our association as President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, and seven Members at Large. Included here are some of the duties for each of these positions.

The chief administrative duty of the President is to represent the association. The President presides at all meetings for the association. The President appoints committee chairmen.

The Vice President presides at meetings in the absence of the President. The Vice President takes over the office of president if that office is vacated for any reason.

The Secretary keeps the minutes and records of the association along with the roll of membership. The Secretary also has charge of communications sent or received by the Association and gives notice of its meetings. The Secretary also performs other duties as the Association shall direct.

The Treasurer collects all revenues of the association and make distributions in accordance with the Associations’ wishes.

The seven Members at Large represent the membership’s point of view during all Executive Committee meetings. The Members at Large perform duties as the association directs.

In addition to the duties cited above, officers and members-at-large try to carry out the goals of the majority of the membership, are urged to attend as many monthly general membership meetings and executive committee meetings as possible, and to undertake leadership roles in ongoing neighborhood projects such as:

• Beautification of our parks and green space
• Welcome committee
• Social events
• Christmas Candlelight Tour
• CHCA newsletter
• 2008 Centennial events
• Development of the Capitol Heights Neighborhood Plan
• Monitoring meetings of the City Council, ARB, Planning Commission for issue impacting our neighborhood
• Neighborly reminders to CH residents of the possibility of fines or other sanctions from the city for infractions of various city codes (noise, weeds, inoperable autos in yards, etc.)
• And more!

The quality of life in Capitol Heights depends on the efforts of all Capitol Heights residents, businesses, and property owners. Only through a concerted and joint effort can we continue to improve our Capitol Heights as a family-friendly neighborhood of homes increasing in value as they are loved and cared for by owners living in those homes or nearby. Only we can reach out to each other to strengthen our neighborhood. Please take an active interest in Capitol Heights! 

If interested in becoming a leader in our association, please contact any of our current Officers. You may also ask another member if they would be willing to nominate you during the meeting in April. All who run for office and vote in elections must be members of the CHCA and dues must be paid current.

April 27, 2002: CHCA held it’s Annual Spring Fling Saturday April 27th, at Armstrong Park. Hotdogs and cold drinks were provided. Capitol Heights residents brought dishes to share and a blankets to sit on. There was good food, good music and lots of fun. It was a wonderful time to meet your neighbors!
