This is a well organized website. I enjoyed reading the very brief note on the history of Capitol Heights. I hope that you can add some more pictures of the beautiful homes and trees of the neighborhood, as well as the people! Good architecture and urban planning can only do so much. The residents are the real story. I look forward to visiting the area Saturday.

CHCA, this site is really nice. Thank you for taking the time to organize it and show off the things about our neighborhood that make it a worthwhile place! — Ben on Winona Ave.

Hi there,
I am writing to you from This Old House magazine. Capitol Heights has been selected as one of This Old House Online’s Best Places to Buy an Old House. Is there someone there who can help me verify the accuracy of a few things the writer, Keith Pandolfi mentions in the article? Here are the points:
1. The “Montgomery Advertiser” called the new neighborhood, built on an old cotton plantation, “an ideal residential suburban section” in 1916.
2. Capitol Heights is located east of downtown Montgomery.
3. The neighborhood is gaining favor among lawyers, teachers, architects, and maintenance workers, who like the diverse community and the fact that the neighborhood is just 5 blocks from their downtown jobs.
4. Houses are extraordinary Deep South versions of the California-style Craftsman with massive front porches and upstairs sleeping porches.
5. Many Capitol Heights houses were built in the early to mid 1900s
6. Recently designated as a local historic district, requiring design review for alterations.
7. There’s a holiday home tour, and a dog park is in the works.
I appreciate any help you can offer!
Thanks,
Tabitha

Hello – As a member of the Capitol Heights United Methodist Church I would like to request a picture of our historical facility be placed on your site. I have requested this several times in the past and have not recieved any responce. As a vital part of the Capitol Hieghts Community, as well as serving as “home base” for your association meetings, I would think CHUMC should be included and valued. In addition, I’m sure we could provide you with much history of the church and it’s role in the community throughout the years.
I look forward to hearing back from you in the next week or so.
Dear CHUMC Member,
Neglected but not forgotten? When we originally pulled the church page together we realized your church was missing — but we di not have a photo. Since then, we have received a great picture taken by Cindy Keeping, but it just hasn’t made it up the priority list….. or maybe its better to say the web site to do list is longer than the time we have to dedicate to the site!!!!!!
The picture will be added to the site in the next few days. You are right, it shoudln’t have taken so long given how good your church is to us.
We also have a good history on the church in the Centennial Program that we created last year…. but if not, we will follow up on that too!
Thanks for the reminder and sorry that you had to remind us!!!

Hello,
Is there a printed map of Capitol Heights? Is there a website where I could go to print one?
Thank you,
Debbie
Debbie,
Yes, there is a map of Capitol Heights posted to our website. Select Historic Designation and then look for Maps of Capitol Heights. Let us know if these maps don’t meet your needs.
Thanks for looking,
CHCA
