CAPITOL HEIGHTS CIVIC ASSOCIATION REGULAR MEETING
October 9, 2007
The Capitol Heights Civic Association held its regular meeting on October 9, 2007 at the Capitol Heights United Methodist Church. The meeting was called to order at 7:05 p. m. by Helen Harris, President.
Guest speaker was Eddie Hill from the City’s Housing Codes Division.
Chairperson for the Membership Drive, Michelle Lyons Adams, announced she is seeking ways to recognize members such as stickers for our cars, signs that can be placed in our yards, publishing names of current members in the newsletter, recognizing new members in the newsletter, etc. Michelle stated the best way to bring in new members is neighbors contacting neighbors. We may begin to solicit for donations in addition to membership fees. Perhaps our neighbors do not want to join but are willing to make a contribution to the association.
Several other announcements were also made:
• Randall Culp invited anyone 55 and older to join the Montgomery Police Department’s VIP program to assist with neighborhood watch.
• We will be decorating the park on Saturday, November the 24th beginning at 10 AM. The Christmas Tree Lighting will be held on Friday, November 30th at 6 PM
• To date nine homes have confirmed to be on the tour and 8 more are considering participation. Mr. Williams has been contacted and there may be two carriages available this year for the tour. Themes for the tour are being discussed. “Centennial Celebration on St. Charles†or “Candlelight Celebration on St. Charles†are two that were suggested. (A request was made that we remove Centennial from the theme name as this is not the centennial year.)
• This year judging for the city’s Christmas parade will be at the end of the parade route. Winners will also be announced in the media.
• CHCA was awarded a $3500 grant from BONDS to use toward our Centennial Celebration.
• Mark Lawrence will attend the City Council meeting on October 27th when the there is to be a vote on the proposed tree ordinance.
• A brainstorming session will be held to identify items to keep Capitol Heights in the public eye. Where & time to be determined and announced later.
• Next meeting date is our Thanksgiving Pot Luck dinner. Dinner begins at 6:30.
A motion to adjourn was adopted. The meeting was adjourned at 9:01 PM.
