Capital Height Civic Association Monthly Meeting-August 10, 2010
Call to Order: 7:08pm
Welcome to new neighbors/members:
1. No new neighbors present
Guest speaker:
1. Sara Hughes, Sunshine Center-Warning Signs of Domestic Violence
Look for: physical signs such as patterned bruising, emotional abuse such as decreased self-esteem, isolation, and depression
What to do: Openly express your concern; Let person know it’s not their fault; Share places person can go for help: hotline number is 1-800-650-6522; Check Facebook and Sunshine Center website for needed donations

Treasurer report:
1. Tabled for next meeting
Future Speakers:
1. Sept: Animal Control & local spay/neuter clinic
2. Oct: Election candidates & police dept.
Watch Dog report:
1. 1617 Madison Ave: will be back on ARB for metal storage building, modifications have been made to the building
2. 25 N. Capital Parkway: house was bought as an investment property, proposal for exterior changes
Yard of the Month:
1. 2114 Madison Ave
2. 2001 Capital Ave
Historical Designation Committee:
1. Currently too hot to get photos taken, will resume project in the fall
2010 Capital Heights by Candlelight:
1. Potential chairperson identified, person not named at meeting
Membership Committee:
1. No report this month. Request that members cultivate relationships with neighbors by getting out and talking to each other.
BONDS Items:
1. Will have to give back some of grant money from 2009-2010 due to not completing all proposed projects.
2. Realtor Open House: due to weather none of the invited realtors came, however those who showed properties were impressed with idea, packets are reusable for future tour or to give out when talk to realtors about the neighborhood
3. Letter to landlords: President & Treasurer will mail letter by end of August, BONDS money will be used for postage, CH is 52% owner occupied, email will be sent out for ideas to include in the letter
4. Homeowners Seminar: this project will not be done this year all money for this project will be returned, due to change in market homeowners are no longer going to seminars
BONDS Grant 2010-2011:
1. Applied for $4000 from BONDS grant for covered pavilion which will cost approx. $11,000- results will be released in October, to cover rest of cost will have fundraiser for $1000, and rest of money will come from the city, labor will be free from community, the project was projected to be completed by June 2011
Suggestion of fundraiser of spaghetti dinner, members asked to think of other ideas for fundraisers
Announcements/Other New Business:
1. CHCA needs new Parks & Green Space chair
2. Member at Large: Seth Rhodenbeck nominated, he was approved for position by vote of membership present at meeting
3. Copy of CH quotes collected for open house passed out during meeting
4. National Night out was a success, members thanked for attending
5. August 19th will be prayer night at 1916 Capital Ave at 7pm, please look for email reminder
6. Possible event with Oak Park and Lee Oaks for fall fling or combination spring fling
