Reports from Special Committees
Christmas Tour & Christmas Lighting & Christmas Parade
Each of our Christmas events need chair persons. There were no volunteers to chair any of these events.
Centennial Homecoming Celebration
The Centennial chairpersons report the positive momentum continues! Ruth Ott, a former resident of Capitol Heights, remains in contact with many, many of her friends, neighbors, and classmates from Capitol Heights. She has forwarded information about our events to her email lists and the response has been terrific.
Articles about the event have appeared in the Montgomery Independent and Future Montgomery Magazine. Future Montgomery Magazine honored us with a fabulous feature article.
On August 13th Karren Pell, Carole King, and Cynthia McCollister will appear on Leslie Bailey’s talk radio show (1170 WACV – AM dial – Montgomery Talk Radio) to talk about the neighborhood and the Centennial Celebration.
Sims Cajun Sno-Balls (shaved ice) has agreed to serve refreshments at the event.
The Historic Preservation Commission will hold their September meeting at Capitol Heights United Methodist Church. At this meeting they will announce the Capitol Heights property that has been selected as HPC’s renovation of the month. We will share details about the Centennial and Karren Pell will be performing for us.
Registrations for the Arts & Crafts Show & Sale are having a slow beginning. SAC’s gallery has forwarded our information to its mailing lists. We believe this will generate some additional interest.
Registrations for the Vintage Auto Show are also having a slow beginning. Cindy Thornhill & Jewell Pitts will be delivering notices again to the auto clubs at Flip’s. Our information has also been emailed to these groups.
We still need volunteers to work the event. The Calling Tree had some success, but we still need more folks to assist.
Unfinished Business
An application for the BONDS Grant 2008-2009 has been submitted. Our application was for funding to install the Historic Marker for the Capitol Heights Elementary School. If granted, BONDS will distribute checks at their annual awards presentation in September.
New Business
Membership agreed to hold a Food Drive in conjunction with November’s Pot Luck Dinner. Members will bring either a non-perishable food item or a financial donation for Montgomery Food Bank.
A motion to adjourn was adopted. The meeting was adjourned at approximately 8:15 PM.
Cynthia McCollister, President
