CAPITOL HEIGHTS CIVIC ASSOCIATION REGULAR MEETING
The CHCA held its regular meeting on January 9th, 2007 at the Capitol Heights United Methodist Church. The meeting was called to order at 7:10 p. m. by Jewell Pitts, Vice President.
Guest speaker for tonight’s meeting was Anita Archie, Executive Director for Montgomery Riverfront Development.
The Treasurer’s report was made available for the members present to review. Treasurer, Mike Dapaelo, was unable to attend this evening’s meeting.
Minutes for the December meeting were approved as read.
Jewell reported that in order for the neighborhood Watch to make progress we need more folks to step up. Although eights of our members have signed to work on this project, none of those are able to act as leaders. If this doesn’t change further action on this will have to be postponed.
Jewell announced that following the Pancake Breakfast on the 27th there will be a short meeting regarding the Neighborhood Watch.
In addition, plans are to have guest speakers at the Breakfast to address alternative options regarding security.
Discussions were held regarding a rezoning request for property located at the corner of Madison Avenue and Vonora Avenue. The request has already been presented to the Planning Commission and has received their recommendation for approval.
The following motion was adopted:
Capitol Heights Civic Association opposes the rezoning of 1353 Madison Avenue from residential use. Since there are available properties in the immediate area already zoned for business, the association does not see there is a need for rezoning this property.
Residents of Capitol heights are encouraged to contact members of the city council and our mayor.
The Executive Committee will see that notification (letters, phone, etc.) will be made to the city council.
A suggestion was made that we work toward more historic designations during the year of our Centennial celebration.
A motion to adjourn was adopted. The meeting was adjourned at 8:31 p. m.
