CAPITOL HEIGHTS CIVIC ASSOCIATION REGULAR MEETING
July 10, 2007

The Capitol Heights Civic Association held its regular meeting on July 10, 2007 at the Capitol Heights United Methodist Church. The meeting was called to order at 7:05 p. m. by Helen Harris, President.

Guest speakers were John Dow and Scott Simmons. Both are candidates in the race for Mayor of Montgomery.

Norma Frederickson volunteered to chair our Christmas tour.

Helen announced Carol King and Karren Pell will be working on Oral Histories.

Cindy Keeping will call a meeting on the Christmas Float in the middle of August.

Cindy Keeping asked for advertiser recommendations and if we would, donations toward publication of a quality newsletter.

Centennial events will be announced in August and information will be available on our Cookbooks in August.

Cindy Keeping mentioned there needs to be a discussion on increasing membership dues. Terry Robinson suggested we make available a non-voting business membership. Agreement was reached to postpone discussion of membership fees until the EC has an opportunity to further study this issue. Michelle Adams volunteered to chair a membership drive for the Association.

Helen challenged everyone to speak to at least one neighbor and invite them to attend our next meeting.

Helen requested anyone interested in forming a Neighborhood Watch contact her.
Helen provided an update on the problem properties reported at the last meeting.

Helen requests that we all monitor city agendas for issues impacting our neighborhood.

Helen plans to have someone speak on architecture at a future meeting and asks that we provide her with our questions about the architecture in Capitol heights.

August 7th is National Neighbor’s Night Out. CHCA does not have anything specific planned, but asks that we keep our porch lights on and keep our homes well lit. Other recommendations are to: challenge everyone you see walking on our street. We should be aware of who our neighbors are and recognize strangers in the area. Pick up our trash so that everyone knows we are a neighborhood that cares.

A motion to adjourn was adopted. The meeting was adjourned at 9:07 PM.

Cynthia McCollister, Secretary
